Coburn is an old sea captain who loses his life's savings in wildcat speculation and is ruined. To prevent his wife from ending up in the poor house, he sells an interest in a ship he doesn't own and uses the money to pay for his mate's stay in an old ladies' home. Unfortunately, he has
no place to stay himself, but the administration of the home softens and allows him to stay there with his wife. Soon everyone is affectionately calling him "Old Lady 31." All turns out well in the end when the old captain rescues a shipwrecked fishing schooner and earns the salvage rights making
him financially sound once again. Uninspired adaptation of a trite stage play by Rachel...
