Cannonball

Disappointing follow-up by director Bartel to his classic cult movie DEATH RACE 2000 (1975). This one, set in the present, details a car race that starts in Los Angeles and ends in New York with $100,000 at the finish line. The two main rivals for the prize, Carradine and McKinney, grunt, swear, and "burn rubber" across the country. The story line is incredibly similar to THE GUMBALL RALLY (1976), released the same year. The fun comes, however, from spotting such great Corman talents as directors Scorsese (RAGING BULL [1980]), Dante (THE HOWLING [1981]), (GREMLINS [1984]), Kaplan (OVER THE EDGE [1979]), (HEART LIKE A WHEEL [1983]), Arkush (ROCK N' ROLL HIGH SCHOOL ...
