The first of the Schneer-produced films featuring Ray Harryhausen's trademark special-effects animation. Naval submarine captain Tobey spots a mutant killer octopus in the mid-Pacific and tries to blow it to smithereens. Before he can do so, the feisty monster sojourns in San Francisco, where it destroys the Golden Gate Bridge and the Market Street Tower before taking to the city's streets.
