Decent Autry outing sees the singing cowboy as the leader of a group of cattlemen who get short-changed by packing company purchasing agent MacDonald. The agent has gotten himself in debt with the local bookie and is hoping to get some quick cash by pulling a fast one on the ranchers. Outraged, Autry goes into town to see Hall, the head of the packing company, but he can't get past the droves of radio sales agents who want the cattle buyer to sponsor their shows. Terry, a radio saleslady who has her last dollar wrapped up in the show she's trying to sell, discovers the recording of the show is broken when Autry is pushed onto her lap. Stuck without a show to sell, Terry tries to drum up interest by offering to broadcast a show live from her ranch with her cowboys providing the singing entertainment. Unfortunately, the whole thing is a con. Since Terry has no ranch, she rents Autry's spread and drags all the radio equipment onto his place for the broadcast. Using the radio gear, the hero manages to trap the dishonest purchasing agent and sing a few songs to boot. Well-paced and believably developed, the songs are worked into the narrative flow naturally through the radio broadcast. Songs include: "Boots and Saddles," "Somebody Else Is Taking My Place," "Montana Skies," the title song sung by Autry, and "When It's Chilly Down in Chile," warbled by Terry. leave a comment
