Average western drama concerning the migration to California in 1848. Milland plays a deserter from the army who drifts to California and tries his luck panning for gold. He becomes embroiled in the struggle for state sovereignty when he, gambler Stanwyck, and tough miner Fitzgerald battle against former slave trader Coulouris who attempts to turn the territory into his personal empire. A good cast and nice color photography help keep this somewhat overlong effort interesting. leave a comment
