Made in the depths of the Depression, CAFE METROPOLE is a typical lightweight comedy aimed at raising the spirits of an audience desperately looking for some humor in their dismal existences. Menjou is headwaiter at the Cafe and has been syphoning money from the till. He learns that the auditors are on their way and tries his fortune at the game of Baccarat, defeating Power, who promptly writes a bad check for almost half a million francs.
