It took eight years for them to get around to a sequel to the very successful CADDYSHACK, but it was certainly not worth the wait. This time around, Mason (like Rodney Dangerfield in the original) plays a self-made millionaire who is loud, crass, and insulting. The story concerns his efforts to please his social-climbing daughter (Lundy) by joining a stuffy country club, although the snobbish members despise him. This production was in trouble before filming even started, as Dangerfield was set to reprise his role from the original but walked out when the producers refused to meet his salary demands. Mason was hastily chosen to fill in, and scriptwriters Ramis and Torokvei had to do some quick rewriting. The result is a disaster. Mason founders in his poorly written role, and none of the film's endless series of gags is the least bit funny. leave a comment
