When a contest brings Elvis-type pop star Conrad Birdie (Jesse Pearson) to Sweet Apple, Ohio, for a final performance before entering the Army, songwriter Albert Peterson (Dick Van Dyke) becomes determined to have the singer perform one of his tunes on the program. Albert's difficulties
