Sure it's goofy, but it's a goofy slice of pure-pop Americana that's awfully hard to resist. A contest brings a Elvis-type pop star (Jesse Pearson) to Sweet Apple, OH, for a final performance before entering the Army, and the whole town — screaming teenyboppers and their parents — is in hysterics. Adapted from a hit Broadway musical, this high-spirited story of rock 'n' roll hysteria in small-town America works wonderfully on film, and Ann-Margret is just the coolest as the girl who wins a nationally televised kiss from her idol.
