Clumsy financial satire set in the USA but shot cheaply in Italy. Herbie Altman (Robert Carradine), a bright but naive investment broker, is framed by a senior partner (Michael Goodwin) for insider trading violations and embezzlement. Herbie is sentenced to 13 years in the joint, where
he's offered special accommodations in exchange for advising Warden Tennant (Malcolm McDowell) on his stock market dealings. Herbie declines the offer and is immediately dispatched to a cell block populated with walking prison-movie cliches. Despite (or perhaps because of) its virtuous intentions,
BUY & CELL is dated and largely unfunny.
