More than a decade (and three sequels) after the smashing success of ROCKY, low-level producers are still pirating Sylvester Stallone's boxing-film formula. In this ragged, predictable variation, pug Coufos and his friend Shaw own a neighborhood gym that nasty real estate men want to close down. Rosato, the chief bad guy, also plans on evicting local residents so that the area can be redeveloped. He gives Coufos a chance to save both the club and the neighborhood in the ring. The outcome of this bout is, of course, already predestined, but to give Coufos just a little more incentive, the film introduces his ex-girlfriend (Cara), who demands custody of the daughter she had with Coufos (and belts out no fewer than four tunes). Several blood-soaked punches later . . . well, you figure it out. leave a comment
