Exceptionally well-done low-budget mystery that begins with Lockhart showing up at her own funeral. Determined to find out who killed the mysterious girl buried under her name, Lockhart begins to suspect her husband, Daniels, and her nymphomaniac sister, O'Donnell. Enlisting the aid of her kindly lawyer, Beaumont, Lockhart uncovers the identity of the murderer and the dead girl. Containing some frankly sexual dialog (for 1947) and a nervous, edgy narrative structure, the film overcomes the limitations of its script and its budget, becoming an intriguing, craftily conceived piece of work. leave a comment
