A blatant FRIDAY THE 13TH rip-off, THE BURNING places a bevy of nubile teens at a summer camp, only to have them brutally murdered one by one. The killer turns out to be the former caretaker of the camp who was horribly burned by mischievous kids five years before and has returned for
revenge. A few effectively directed sequences and special makeup effects by Tom Savini (most of which were cut to avoid an "X" rating) are the only reasons to sit through this terribly familiar material. Rick Wakeman, former keyboardist of the rock band Yes, contributes a typically grating musical
score.
