Murphy, who usually played a good guy, is effective here as a man come to seek revenge in the western town of Lordsburg. Everyone in town believes Murphy is out to kill someone. The question is who? The film moves slowly, building with a nice feeling of eerieness and paranoia that was a minor staple of 1950s filmmaking. Stehli, the town judge who is confined to a wheelchair, is Murphy's intended victim. The sneering, mustached villain faces off against his victim who slowly tries to get out of his chair. The direction effectively builds up to the moment, creating great suspense and tension. This is undoubtedly one of director Arnold's best moments. leave a comment
