Pretty Boy Floyd's descent into crime is told in a ho-hum manner. Floyd (Fabian), serving a six-year road-gang sentence on a manslaughter charge (having eliminated a jealous suitor vying for the hand of his wife) escapes after serving four years. Contacts from the joint lead Floyd to Kansas City madam Beryl (Anne MacAdams) who introduces him to a gang of bad guys and a sluggish parade of bank robberies until a weary G-man tracks him down and kills him. Visually the production is good, primarily because of the Texas exteriors and a lot of period autos, indicating the BONNIE AND CLYDE influence had not played out as yet. But the story drags in this Depression-era melodrama. leave a comment
