After striking fellow officer Marlowe, Milland quits the cavalry, planning to leave the East and reenlist in the Wild West. When he arrives at Fort Lincoln, Milland is shocked to learn that his old enemy, Marlowe, is in command. Milland endures hardship after hardship as Marlowe gives him the most dangerous assignments, hoping that Milland will die on one of the assignments. When they both fall for Carter, the tension between the two builds to a frenzy. During the Battle of the Little Big Horn, the two rivals engage in a hand-to-hand fight while hundreds of soldiers and Indians battle around them. Marlowe is killed and Milland returns to Carter after Custer's devastating loss. Routine western containing a gutsy performance from Milland in his first action picture. Mediocre director Rowland manages to create a few thrilling fight sequences and gives the entire picture a fast rhythm and edgy quality. leave a comment
