Henreid plays the legendary pirate of the Gulf of Mexico, Lafitte. This tale occurs after the British have been driven from New Orleans with the help of the pirate. Henreid is unable to retain his boats from the American government, so he and his men capture one and set up shop on a small island off the coast.
