Bridge To The Sun: Review

American girl Baker, married to Japanese diplomat Shigeta, disregards the harsh comments of her family and friends and returns to Japan with her husband at the outbreak of WW II. Enduring numerous physical and social hardships during the war, an unexpected tragedy befalls the couple when the battles have ended. Compassionate but unexciting performances from Baker and Shigeta fail to elevate the film above its status as a well-intentioned but mediocre drama. The cultural, emotional, and social problems are evident, but a lack of focus in characterization and the inability, or unwillingness to take chances with the provocative subject matter, mark the film as a noble failure. leave a comment
