With his immobile face and god-like stature, Dolph Lundgren stands astride this star vehicle like the Colossus of Rhodes gone slumming. Though as inexpressive as ever, Lundgren has honed his essential skills: martial arts and reloading assault weapons. In some mythical future, Chinese warlord Ruechang (Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa) enforces his dominion with mercenary muscle, led by Emmerich (Gary Hudson) and Warchild (Lundgren). Ruechang intends to consolidate his power by marrying Princess Halo (Valerie Chow), the daughter of his late predecessor. But Halo flees after her handmaid reveals that Ruechang assassinated Halo's father. Loyal to his liege, Warchild braves rebel-held forests to retrieve the errant bride-to-be, but finds himself falling in love with her. After Ruechang's troops attack the revolutionaries and recapture Halo, Warchild must attempt a daring rescue at court. The gimmick here involves transposing a medieval action picture to a slightly futuristic setting, but the set decoration is so careless it's hard to figure out the century or country in which the action is transpiring. Inveterate action fans hooked on a steady diet of spicy kickboxing and bland heroics may be sufficiently entertained to stick it out until the end. leave a comment --Robert Pardi
