One of the last of the romantic comedies the delightful Colbert made uniquely her own. Nora Shelly (Colbert), an expert accountant working for Paul Martin (Brent), uses the company files as a database for finding the perfect, well-to-do husband. Paul discovers her plan, and, anxious to keep her on his staff, gets a museum curator friend (Young) to sweep Colbert off her feet and then drop her, teaching her the value of staying a single working woman. Naturally, Young can't help but fall in love with his unsuspecting victim. Colbert and Young display an affinity for the material and for each other that makes this screwball comedy an overlooked if minor treasure. Although he was no Cary Grant, Young makes himself a welcome presence here, displaying the easygoing style and wit that distinguished his best work in many films of the 1940s. leave a comment
