A domineering tobacco farmer has taken in his wife's widowed sister and son. The kid (Breen) runs away to Philadelphia and gains fame and fortune as a singer, in the hope of making his mother independent again. Admirable production and performing efforts make this a film where the viewer
will cheer for the boy soprano, despite the weak script and dialog. The film earned an Oscar nomination for Best Original Score.
