When everyone and his brother cashed in on the CB craze, several movies were made in an attempt to get the truckers off the highways and into the theater. One notable flop was CONVOY (Kris Kristofferson); BREAKER! BREAKER! was equally a flop but somewhat less notable. This picture attempts to combine red-neck locales with Zen master philosophy. That combination is sort of like grits and sushi--both are pretty good, but together they're awful. A martial arts trucker comes to a small town to rescue his kid brother who's been kidnaped by villains. In the course of inhuman events, he takes a bullet in his guts, destroys a few buildings and a few people, woos the waitress with a heart of gold and a cast-iron stomach, and saves the day. The producer-director-composer was Don Hulette. It's hard enough to do one thing well in the movie business; Hulette proves that point in spades. It's worth noting that this was Chuck Norris' first film appearance. leave a comment
