Egocentric Knight, the star of a musical revue, has song and dance duo Buchanan and Chevalier fired from the line-up fearing that the talented pair may become more popular than she. Hoping to get back in the public eye, Buchanan and Chevalier decide to stage a spectacular publicity stunt. Buchanan mysteriously disappears, and Chevalier confesses to his murder. Knowing that his partner is hiding in a Balkan village and will miraculously reappear in time to save him, Chevalier patiently waits in his prison cell, glowing from the attention of the newspapers. Buchanan, however, gets mixed up with a group of revolutionaries who believe he is an enemy general and fails to make it to Chevalier's court appearance. Chevalier must begin taking the prospect of execution more seriously.

The always enchanting Buchanan and Chevalier are a pleasure to watch in this funny, energetic musical that features some hilariously suspenseful sequences. Although it may not rank with director Clair's French classics, this perfect piece of British entertainment holds its own special place. Songs include "It All Belongs to You" (Cole Porter, sung by Chevalier) and "We're Old Buddies" (Van Phillips, Jack Buchanan, sung by Chevalier and Buchanan). leave a comment
