Young aspiring composer Hepburn meets and falls madly in love with prestigious orchestra conductor Boyer, and the two marry, spending a romantic honeymoon in Europe. Hepburn soon discovers that Boyer's passion for music is equal to his passion for other women and she leaves him. Forsaking his career and his mistress, Boyer sinks into alocholic despair and near oblivion. Hepburn finds him in a seedy dive and lifts him out of his hole by playing "their" song on the honky tonk's cheap piano. The couple get back together, and Boyer sets out to conquer the symphonic world once again. Hopelessly exaggerated drama that could be unintentionally humorous if it were not for the power and personality of its star. Boyer, playing his usual gigolo-wises-up role, does a credible job in bringing the conductor's intense lifestyle to the forefront, but it is Hepburn who steals the film with a charmingly innocent portrayal of a loving but strong-willed wife. Regrettably, the script and direction do nothing to equal Hepburn's insight into her character. leave a comment
