Brady's Escape

Savage is a US bomber pilot in WW II forced to bail out over Nazi-occupied Hungary. He and his wounded navigator, Usztics, are found by a group of hard-living nomads who initially want to kill Savage for bombing their country but then decide to hide him from the Germans. Usztics later dies of his wounds; Brady falls in love with Bansagi, who is teaching him Hungarian; and little orphan Reno comes to idolize Savage. Eventually the flier makes a break for freedom, riding fast across the Hortobagy Plain for Yugoslavia, where he can join up with Tito's partisans.
