This devil-may-care action picture makes fun of its scenario's staleness while supplying the expected action set pieces; even the tongue-in-cheek performances of the leads don't dissipate the thrills. Two bounty hunters, Jersey Bellini (Michael Dudikoff) and B.B. (Lisa Howard) quarrel over how to proceed when the criminal they're tracking commits a new crime, serves as driver in a jewelry store heist. Jersey wants to follow their original plan and bust him for the reward, while B.B. wants to intercede in the robbery first. They do things B.B.'s way and she gets shot by the hold-up gang's inside man; B.B. blames the preoccupied Jersey for nabbing the driver instead of backing her up. Meanwhile, the foiled robbery damages the reputation of rising Mafioso Peter Carlos (Steve Bacic) and peeves his boss, Wald (Tony Curtis). In order to cinch a promotion, Carlos promises to punish the meddling loose cannons who foiled the heist. Carlos send a hit man, Tyler (Pablo Coffey), to blows up Jersey's home, which puts Jersey on the offensive. B.B. and Jersey, who are still squabbling, cross paths at an underworld powwow and nab Tyler together. Although they turn him over to the cops, he refuses to inform on his confederates. Jersey also discovers that the Mob has paid a second killer, former cop Chuck Ramsey (Dale Wilson), to ice him. After Jersey takes care of Ramsey and gives Tyler a taste of his own medicine in a bomb-rigged van, he and B.B. crash a gangland conference at a warehouse, where they find themselves seriously outnumbered. Wald's thugs capture Jersey and earmark him for execution, leaving his life in B.B.'s hands: Can she rescue him against overwhelming odds? Directed with considerable gusto, this free-for-all works both on the level of self-parody and as a genuinely exciting Mafia escapade. leave a comment --Robert Pardi
