BOULEVARD NIGHTS is as close as anyone has gotten to the truth about East Los Angeles gang life but still miles away from the reality, as voiced by several gang members who saw this film. Actually shot in the barrio, the film uses a largely Latino cast, and the absence of star faces
makes this feel all the more believable. The story is what you might expect--sensitive young man, problems with gang violence, low-rider cars, lots of idiotic Cheech and Chong "mans," earnest emotions, etc. It doesn't happen because all the good intentions in the world do not a fine picture
make.
