Keep an eye on writer-director Roth. He is a comer who will be considered an important filmmaker soon enough. In THE BOSS'S SON he gives evidence of his talent with a highly personal film that is probably very close to his own story. Brauner is a young man whose father owns a carpet company. Moreno, a Jewish mother who takes the occasional nip from the bottle, and father Solari, would like the lad to go into Dad's business. Brauner prefers a different life. He takes up with Sanders, a truck driver for the firm, and they become the best of friends--until Brauner discovers that Sanders is part of a robbery scheme. The story is secondary to the emotions in this picture, marked by a singular lack of self-indulgence, a trait characteristic of many young directors. leave a comment
