Musician Bobby Troup plays a psychologist whose essay "Mass Hysteria and the Popular Singer" proves that rock 'n' roll is fading away and calypso is the new youth beat. He convinces singer Tyler to forsake her rock roots for the Caribbean sound. Mercifully Mr. Troup and Miss Tyler were
