In case you were wondering, a booty call is a kind of phone call that's usually made in the wee hours of the morning, when it may be too late for romance, but not for... well, booty. This really has nothing to do with this raunchy sex comedy, but it does give
one a pretty good idea of where it's coming from. Nikki (Tamala Jones), still feeling skittish about having sex with her new boyfriend, Rushon (Tommy Davidson), convinces her best friend Lysterine (Vivica A. Fox) to run interference for her on a double date with Rushon's friend Bunz (Jamie Foxx).
Although sparks fly -- Lysterine and Bunz couldn't be any more different -- it isn't long before both couples are between their respective sets of sheets. But it's strictly a no-glove, no-love situation, so Bunz and Rushon are sent out on a frustrating quest first for condoms, then specifically
latex condoms -- these women have done their homework -- then Saran Wrap for her pleasure. There's a sloppy, sketch-comedy feel to all this -- Both Foxx and Davidson are veterans of TV's In Living Color, and director Jeff Pollack is one of the cocreators of The Fresh Prince
of Bel Air. It's basically a one-joke comedy that spins out of control once the joke's over, but the cast is likable, the women smart, and one can't argue with the important safe-sex message. One can, however, take issue with the film's casual racism and homophobic humor, which effectively
spoil what could otherwise have been just good, dirty fun. --Ken Fox
