George Raft didn't want to die in a film, but in BOLERO he dies of a heart attack after dancing the Bolero on an enormous drum with Lombard, and his dying words are "I'm too good for this joint." That's the way Raft felt about movie studios, and his battles and refusals are legendary.
BOLERO is the story of a megalomaniacal dancer who ascends from low-brow cafes to become the owner of a posh Parisian club. Raft knows that it's best to lay off one's dance partners, so he keeps them at arm's length, until he meets up with Lombard and falls head-over-patent-leather-heels for her.
