Pacino, a top-flight but seemingly emotionless Formula One driver, meets Keller, a complex lady of leisure, at a Swiss hospital. Before long this man who has never loved anyone falls for Keller. Ah, but it's too late--she's dying of leukemia. Don't be put off by this cliched premise,
though; BOBBY DEERFIELD is a better picture than it starts out to be. Yes, tears are rather forcibly jerked, but plenty of sparks also fly in the relationship between Keller (whose German accent works against the credibility of her Italian jet-setter character) and Pacino, making their love story
ultimately interesting if not always affecting. This gorgeously shot film is a trifle long...
