An average futuristic-prison/prehistoric-reptile picture. World leaders, responding to widespread about violent recidivism, mandate the construction of an impregnable fortress in the Antarctic. Pressured to open the facility on schedule, the Warden (Craig Wasson) ignores his engineer's warnings after workers stumble upon a hollow rock fortress. It ensues that the 10,000,000 year-old geological anomaly wasn't the result of an explosion; it's the home of a no-longer-slumbering behemoth. The penitentiary guards prove no match for "whatever's out there," namely a giant, computer generated snake. Reinforcements arrive in the form of special forces' soldiers, plus paleontologist Dr. Robert Trenton (Dean Cain) and his wife, Dr. Jessica Platt-Trenton (Elizabeth Lackey). The safest area in the prison proves to be the cells that house six political prisoners. After releasing the convicts in order to beef up fighting power, Dr. Trenton suggests they abandon plans to kill the reptile in favor of merely escaping from it. Unfortunately, all potential escape routes veer close to the beast's lair, and the humongous snake is sensitive to movement. Just when a handful of survivors board a plane and take off, they discover that the stowaway Boa is clinging to the outside of the airplane! Can the terrified passengers shake off their deadly cargo or will they wind up airplane food for a monster? Though neatly packaged, this action-oriented sci-fi picture doesn't amount to much more than cheap thrills. leave a comment --Robert Pardi
