It's no masterpiece of erotica, but this sly sex thriller relies on more than coarse bumps and grinds to arouse. A distaff rehash of George Romero's MARTIN, this AC/DC saga builds to a bloody climax while pausing frequently to examine non-traditional forms of making out. Whitney (Monique Parent), a landlady prone to various forms of addictive behavior, offers free room and board to chosen tenants. Although she dallies with an often-absent lover named Jim (Matt Baily), Whitney has needs he can't satisfy: besides swinging both ways, kinky Whitney dabbles in vampirism. Soon after moving in, aspiring musician Celia (Leslie Danon) loses her job as a secretary and agrees to become Whitney's latest blood donor. Before long, Celia becomes addicted to the transfusions starts begging Whitney for extra sessions. As the symbiosis between the women deepens, Celia pawns some of Whitney's jewelry to finance what she hope will be her big performing break. When Whitney accuses her of theft, Celia responds by lashing out at Jim. The aftermath changes -- and extends -- the women's relationship forever. With acting several rungs above the usual soft-core moaning, this oddball film -- which seems to regard Whitney's bloodlust as no more deviant than, say, a light spanking -- focuses on the shifting balance of power between the dominant and submissive women. On the negative side, the dialogue is a bit anemic, plot situations repeat themselves and the purloined gems are given too much attention. In terms of sensual pull, however, both straight and homosexual entanglements exercise sufficient bite. leave a comment --Robert Pardi
