Bloodline

1979, Movie, R, 116 mins

Sidney Sheldon writes blockbuster books that seem to have trouble translating to the screen, and this one is no exception. The novel Bloodline is a first-rate third-rate book, filled with all sorts of high intrigue, fascinating characters, and a far-fetched plot that could be swallowed if one didn't read the book in one sitting. Despite an all-star cast, the film version is only marginally entertaining. Hepburn, the young heiress to a pharmaceuticals fortune, is the target of death threats, and no one can figure out who the miscreant is. There are plenty of likely suspects, though, including her greedy, jealous relatives scattered throughout Europe: Parisian Schneider, Londoner Mason, and Roman Papas. Sheldon, who began life as a screenwriter and won an Oscar in 1947 for THE BACHELOR AND THE BOBBY SOXER, might fare better if he adapted his own novels. leave a comment
