In this first film of the very successful "Blondie" series based on the popular comic strip by Chic Young, harried Dagwood Bumstead (Arthur Lake) loses his job on the eve of his and Blondie's (Penny Singleton) fifth anniversary. Not as exaggerated as the comic strip, the series was very simple in its approach and managed to poke some fun at social customs. Singleton and Lake, perfectly cast as the famous husband-and-wife cartoon characters, bring charm and spontaneity to this film and to each entry in the series. leave a comment
