Blondie Of The Follies

1932, Movie, NR, 97 mins

Davies and Dove both came out of the Follies so they were able to play these roles with more than the usual quota of believability. The picture leaves much to be desired, though, as it details the lives of two Follies girls, their loves, their on-again, off-again friendship. Davies produced this movie (but we all know who was behind it, don't we?) and cast herself in the more sympathetic role of the two--no fool she. Both girls chase Montgomery through the film and there's little doubt who will capture him. The highlight of the movie is an all-too-brief appearance by 39-year-old Jimmy Durante, who teams with Davies in a devastating satire of Garbo and Barrymore in Ed Goulding's GRAND HOTEL. The rest of the movie pales by comparison. (Montgomery, born Henry Montgomery, Jr., was only 28 and already an established star.) leave a comment
