Blind Date

1987, Movie, PG-13, 93 mins

Director Blake Edwards takes a sitcom sketch and blows it up into a witless feature film that relies on pratfalls and slapstick. Walter Davis (Bruce Willis) is a prosaic paper-shuffler whose only ambition is to climb the corporate ladder. Davis is scheduled to attend an important dinner but is cautioned to find a proper suit and bring an acceptable date. His on-and-off girl friend is not available, so he nervously accepts a suggestion from his sleazy, car-salesman brother to take Nadia Gates (Kim Basinger), a southern girl who's new in town. She beautiful, it seems, but there's one drawback: she gets wild when she drinks. Subsequent developments are predictable--wrecked car, lost job, insanely jealous boyfriend--and the humor, save for a smattering of effective sight gags, is forced. leave a comment
