Blackout

This hopelessly wooden psycho-thriller written by Joseph Stefano, who adapted Robert Bloch's novel Psycho for Alfred Hitchcock, is as dull as they get. After receiving a letter from her estranged father, whom she hasn't seen since she was seven, troubled young O'Grady returns to the northern California home she ran away from years before. The homecoming results in mysterious murders, confusing flashbacks, and a distasteful subplot involving incest. Stefano's screenplay is so poorly written that the vast majority of the plot is recited, not dramatized. First-time director Doug Adams (who also had a hand in the script) doesn't help much. Shot like a made-for-television movie, his film just doesn't move. leave a comment
