A very tough and dark film that foreshadowed things to come. Robinson and Graves are both on Death Row for assorted crimes. Graves has put away $200,000 in loot from a bank robbery, so Robinson takes him and several hostages along on a jail break. They end up trapped on the top floor of a
warehouse, and bloodthirsty Robinson wants to kill a hostage every hour or so until the surrounding police leave. The cops won't depart and there's a standoff until Graves kills Robinson, just as the latter is about to murder a priest (Stone). Graves then goes out with guns blazing and the picture
is over. This is one of the later gangster films, made almost 20 years after the War...
