A heavy metal band, Black Roses, visits a small town where the teens have never seen a rock concert. Their parents are in an uproar over Black Roses, claiming the band members are "disciples of the Devil." It seems the only person who understands the kids is their English teacher, Matthew Moorhouse (John Martin). Hysterically over the top, BLACK ROSES is to heavy metal what REEFER MADNESS was to marijuana. That the teenagers turn so wildly rebellious and nasty after one concert is already amusing; once they become fanged demons the film is flat out hilarious. It's never quite clear whether BLACK ROSES is a hysterical send-up of Tipper Gore-style paranoia or if it's meant to be a sincere warning about the music's potential for harm. BLACK ROSES is played so straight that it appears to be the latter, however. leave a comment
