The Bishop Murder Case

1930, Movie, NR, 91 mins

starstarstarstar
Classic sleuth Rathbone snoops through thick and thin to uncover the killer of a young man found on an archery range with an arrow through his heart. Three possible suspects are promptly killed, and two others die of presumed heart attacks due to overexcitement. Tension builds around the remaining suspects, an elderly, sly-mannered hunchback, a crazed fanatic, and a fellow in love with the niece of an elderly professor. Most of the action takes place in the old gent's house. Our hero reveals the truth by tying together the events a la Sherlock Holmes and Agatha Christie, but the ending is less than surprising. Fine character work by performers adding that special touch of eccentric horror and mystery. Watch for the sudden change from a silent, tense sequence to a police car screaming down the street. leave a comment
