A sensitive and compelling film that nobody went to see. Perhaps it was the title and the fact that there were no big names on the marquee, whatever. McClung is a "city cousin" who comes to Amish country to live with relatives Torn and Albert. Radnitz has made a career of doing intelligent, but seldom seen, movies. In the past he's produced SOUNDER, ISLAND OF THE BLUE DOLPHINS, A DOG OF FLANDERS, and others, none of which has been terrically successful. Still, he manages to raise money to make these movies for a small but appreciative audience. The look at the Amish life is fascinating, and all performances are good, particularly Revere's. It's handsome, well-written, and well-directed, and if you are one of the few people who saw it, you won't forget BIRCH INTERVAL. leave a comment
