BIONICLE 2: LEGENDS OF METRU NUI

Itty-bitty aficionados of these biomechanical cartoon heroes based on Lego toys may welcome their further adventures, but the non-initiated will find the folkloric script impenetrable. Eons ago, in the Land of Runes, the highly developed Metru Nui civilization prospered. The tranquility of the peace-loving populace is tested, however, by the Dark Order, which unleashes a corruptive force throughout the individual kingdoms. On a sacred mission, six ordinary Matoran villagers — unlikely warriors Onewa (voice of Brian Drummond), Whenua (Paul Dobson), Nuju (Trevor Devall), Matau (Brian Drummond), Vakama (Alessandro Juliani of the 2000s "Battlestar Galactica" series), and Nokama (Tabitha St. Germain) — combat the Dark Order by hiding the magic stones entrusted to them. A Spirit Mask appears to the humble sextet and urges them to soldier on and insert their individual rocks into the wall of the Great Temple. Voila! Their gumption transforms the pipsqueaks into Toa warrior-trainees. Meanwhile, political bigwig Turaga Dume (Gerard Plunkett) has been pressuring Vakamam his neighborhood metallurgist, to complete the Mask of Time that Dume needs to wear at a propaganda ceremony. However, the freshly minted Toa buddies have a new gig:To locate the Great Kanoka Disks and banish wickedness from their world.Violent winds pelt them; monoliths block their path; monsters attack them. To complete their latest assignment and become full-fledged Toas, the six crusaders must discover their inner power. As viewers navigate the choppy seas of this narrative, they may experience something close to mal de mer. The CGI-animated mayhem will distract youngsters from the endless palaver about rock-collecting as a sacred trust. leave a comment --Robert Pardi
