The first western shot in Israel (as opposed to cheap runaway productions in Spain or Italy) stars Peck as a grizzled old Scottish bandit who teams up with a young half-breed, Arnaz, to pull a robbery. Things go badly--the two accidentally kill a citizen, and the haul only nets them $420. Arnaz is captured, and Peck rescues him only to be severely wounded by a gunshot to his leg. Now the tables are turned, and the older, more experienced outlaw must rely on the young bandit. While on the run they encounter the homestead of an old rancher and his young wife. Peck pays the rancher to take him in his wagon to the nearest doctor, which is a four-day ride away. Left alone together, Arnaz and the rancher's wife form a carnal liaison and are caught by the racist sheriff, Warden, who has been on the outlaw's trail since his escape. At the same time, the rancher is killed and Peck mortally wounded by savage Indians on the trail. Routine western redeemed somewhat by Peck's performance. leave a comment
