BIG RED is a big yawn. It's a typical "boy and his dog" story from Disney that has little to recommend it beyond some songs by the Sherman brothers. Pidgeon is a stiff businessman who is shown the advantages of family life by Payant and Champion Red Aye Scraps, the dog who plays Big Red.
The picture is just too cute for its own good, and the attempt at doing an understated kiddy film only results in a film so understated that children will fall asleep rather than get involved.
