The Big Heat: Review

A scalding faceful of harsh reality, courtesy Fritz Lang. Starkly photographed and without a continuous score, this film is as brutal as Lang's M was frightening. Glenn Ford stars as an ex-cop out to avenge the mob murder of his wife; Gloria Grahame, in a performance that defines the film noir antiheroine, plays a moll who squeals on her psycho boyfriend (Lee Marvin) and pays dearly for it.
