Fast-moving melodrama. McLaglen, a captain of the guards at a reformatory, is elevated to the position of acting warden after apprehending escaped prisoners, including Cooper. He also obtains some gangster loot but, instead of turning this in, holds onto the stolen money for family security. Cooper is wrongly tried and convicted for a killing connected with the break and is sentenced to death.
