Definitely one of the better martial-arts pictures, THE BIG BRAWL possesses a wonderful self-mocking sense of humor. Oddly enough, the picture is set in Chicago in the late 1930s, and it looks like a color version of an old Warner Bros. movie. Dominici (Jose Ferrer) hires Jerry (Jackie
Chan) to take part in the title fight, a winner-take-all affair. Although the plot is negligible, the film offers some top-notch performances by Chan, Mary Ellen O'Neill (as a Ma Barker type), Kristine De Bell (as Jerry's girl friend), and Lenny Montana (as a bad guy).
