A very strange film that is quite outdated. Jolson does most of the movie in blackface as a stable boy who is given the chance to ride "Big Boy" in the Kentucky Derby. Gamblers, bad guys, all the usual cliches abound. Jolson sings a number of songs including an inexplicable flashback to post-Civil War days for a leaden comedy sequence with Jolson leading a choir in a host of black spirituals.
